MAY 2, 2009 NEW YORK (Reuters) - Call her the modern day Goldfinger. A New York woman was charged Wednesday with stealing as much as $12 million in gold bullion and jewelry over a period of six years, lifting the ill-gotten booty from her employer by concealing the stash in the lining of her pocketbook. Turns out the company did an audit this year and found the 12-mil missing. Maybe they should do more frequent audits. You think?
MAY 1, 2009 Marriage news: CAIRO (AP) -- An 8-year-old Saudi girl has divorced her middle-aged husband after her father forced her to marry him last year in exchange for about $13,000, her lawyer said Thursday. There's just no stability anymore.
Crime news, from London's Telegraph: The character of Jack the Ripper was invented by journalists to sell newspapers, and his East End murder spree was actually the work of several unrelated killers, according to a new book. Senior police officers who investigated the 1888 prostitute killings were convinced they were not the work of a single man, research by the historian Dr Andrew Cook has uncovered. A letter boasting about the killings signed by a "Jack the Ripper" was forged by a journalist at the Star newspaper in an attempt to sustain sales that had been swollen by its salacious coverage of the crimes. Oh, come on. All the Obama voters know it was really Dick Cheney.
An obituary, maybe: Hans Holzer, whose investigations into the paranormal took him to haunted houses all over the world, most notably the Long Island house that inspired “The Amityville Horror,” died on Sunday at his home in Manhattan. He was 89. He'll be back.
